El presente libro tiene el propósito de rendir homenaje al historiador Álvaro Jara, especialista en historia económica hispanoamericana colonial. Con este fin, diversos autores mexicanos, chilenos y peruanos escribieron pensando en la obra y legado del maestro; retomaron sus fuentes, su metodología y sus tópicos más relevantes, tales como la minería, la Real Hacienda y el mundo del trabajo. Los capítulos están escritos con afán de generar conocimiento, a partir de las directrices trazadas por Jara y de la propia investigación básica realizada por los autores. Los resultados son originales y la variedad de los problemas, bajo la mirada del destacado historiador, se multiplican y actualizan notablemente, ahora a través de quienes lo han leído o seguido de cerca sus magníficas lecciones.
