This first volume includes Snow of the Admiral, in which Maqroll embarks on a desperate voyage up the Xurandó River where, under a merciless sun and plagued by illness, he is shipwrecked, marking the start of his perilous adventures. We meet him again in Ilona Comes with the Rain, sailing aboard the Hansa Stern to Panama, where he falls into the arms of Ilona until another woman, Larissa, points the way to new journeys.
