Cuando Jardiel entregó a la imprenta sus tomos recopilatorios de piezas cortas -El libro del convaleciente y Exceso de equipaje- eligió escritos que había publicado en diversas revistas durante los años veinte y treinta, desechando el resto. Resultaba imposible publicarlos todos -eran más de mil- y el autor no tenía entonces copia de todos ellos. Entre aquellos escritos hallamos muchos de gran calidad literaria. Damos ahora a conocer a sus lectores estos relatos, muy vanguardistas, con un alto componente de absurdo y en los que hace despliegue de gran cantidad de innovaciones literarias. El propio autor es protagonista de algunos de ellos, lo que permitirá al lector asomarse a su personalidad, excéntrica y excepcional.
